Admission is free, and while registration is not required, we encourage visitors to reserve an arrival time through our Eventbrite page. Timed registration helps us spread attendance throughout the evening, reduce traffic and parking congestion, and create a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Night Lights is free to attend. Donations are gratefully accepted and help us cover equipment, materials, food for our volunteers, portable restrooms, insurance, and other event expenses.

We welcome people with many different interests and experience levels. Volunteers help with building, cleanup, parking, welcoming visitors, photography, food preparation, logistics, and many other parts of the weekend.

Limited parking is available on the property for seniors, and volunteers will direct you when you arrive.

Additional parking is available across the street at the New Lebanon Library and Tilden Plaza and the Roaring '20s. Please follow all posted signs and volunteer instructions, and use caution when crossing Route 20.

No. For everyone's safety, the event site is closed to the public until the official opening time. Throughout the day, volunteers are actively installing artwork, testing equipment, running cables, and moving materials around the property. The site is an active work zone, and it is not safe for visitors.

If you'd like to experience Night Lights, please join us during the event's posted hours. The only exception is for registered Night Lights volunteers who are assisting with setup.

Night Lights in New Lebanon takes place on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend every year. The event location is at 555 Route 20 in New Lebanon, New York.

Yes! Children are welcome, and they tend to love Night Lights. The first hour of the evening is our family-focused hour, when we especially encourage families with younger children to attend.

Children must remain with a supervising adult at all times.

No. Night Lights is designed to inspire wonder, imagination, and curiosity rather than frighten visitors. However, the property becomes very dark, and some younger children may be nervous walking through wooded areas after sunset. 

The path crosses uneven grass, wood chips, and wooded terrain, so standard strollers may be difficult to use. An all-terrain stroller may work under dry conditions, but visitors should be prepared for mud and uneven ground.

For the safety of our guests, volunteers, and wildlife, dogs and other pets are not permitted at Night Lights. Service animals are welcome and must stay on leash.

Night Lights is a rain-or-shine event. Please check the forecast and dress accordingly. There is no rain date.

In the event of dangerous weather or another serious safety concern, updates will be posted on our website and social media pages.

Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes that you do not mind getting dirty. The ground is uneven and may be wet or muddy, especially after rain.

We also recommend bringing layers, rain gear when needed, and bug spray. Temperatures can drop considerably after sunset.

The approximately quarter-mile loop travels through mowed grassy areas and wooded sections of private property. The ground is uneven, and visitors may encounter slopes, roots, wood chips, mud, and covered extension cords.

Please walk carefully and remain on the marked path.

Unfortunately, the event path is not currently wheelchair- or mobility-scooter accessible. It crosses uneven grass, wooded terrain, wood chips, and portions of the route may include covered extension cords.

There are a few places to sit and rest along the path. Please contact us at   nightlights.in.newleb@gmail.com before the event with specific accessibility questions, and we will provide as much information as possible.

It gets very dark, particularly toward the back of the property and in the wooded sections. We illuminate significant hazards and may have flashlights available to borrow, but supplies are limited. 

To help everyone experience the installations as intended, please keep your light aimed at the ground directly in front of you and avoid shining bright lights onto the installations or into other visitors' eyes.  

Please begin at the welcome table inside. Our volunteers will greet you, provide any important information, and direct you to the beginning of the path.

Yes. Porta potties and handwashing stations will be available for public use.

Food and drinks will not be sold at the event. We recommend eating before you arrive and bringing your own water. If you'd like to grab a drink beforehand, our local sponsor, Roaring 20's, will be happy to welcome you at the bar before the event begins.

Please do not bring alcohol to the event. To protect the property and local wildlife, please avoid bringing food onto the walking path and take all trash with you when you leave.

Yes! Personal photography is welcome, and we would love for you to tag us at @nightlights.in.newlebanon.

Yes. Event photographers may take photographs or video during the evening for future promotional and archival use. Please speak with a volunteer at the welcome table if you have concerns about being photographed.

Please look, explore, and enjoy—but do not touch, climb on, enter, move, or unplug any installation unless a sign clearly invites interaction (this includes the tree house).

The installations may include electrical equipment, cables, delicate materials, and structures that were not designed to support weight. Children must be closely supervised.

Night Lights is created by a volunteer community of lighting designers, artists, technicians, organizers, local residents, and helping hands. More than 30 people come together to design, build, operate, and dismantle the installations in a single weekend.

The event is organized by a volunteer executive team and supported by several working committees. It is not produced by a commercial event company.

Night Lights was founded by lighting designers Sara Schonour and Jess Krometis, who imagined bringing lighting professionals together to experiment, collaborate, and create something magical for the local community.

What began as a creative gathering has grown into an annual community event powered by dozens of volunteers.

Night Lights takes place at the private home of Sara and Shantel Schonour. They open their property to the participating designers, volunteers, and public for this one-night community event.

Please help us remain good neighbors by following parking instructions, staying within marked event areas, keeping noise to a minimum, and carrying out anything you bring with you.

The installations are created by volunteer lighting designers, artists, technicians, students, and other creative participants. Some participants are experienced industry professionals, while others are exploring lighting design for the first time.

Teams spend several months developing their ideas, but the installations themselves are assembled and dismantled during the event weekend.

No! The installations are temporary and are created specifically for that year’s event. Returning visitors can expect an entirely new experience each year.

No. Some roles require specialized experience, but many do not. There are meaningful ways for people of all backgrounds and skill levels to contribute
